The piece

1.36 carats of round purple sapphire ringed by 0.32 carats of natural diamond, 10mm across, prong-set in 14K gold at 3.70 grams. Purple is the least common sapphire color to run at any volume and the one that changes most between light sources — violet in daylight, closer to plum under warm bulbs. Against yellow gold it leans warmer; against white it holds nearer the blue side. The diamond ring is kept narrow here on purpose.
